*Manuscripts must be double-spaced, Courier 12 font. Page 1 should include name, address of author in top left corner, and first paragraph should begin in the middle of the page. All other pages must include manuscript title and page number in the top right-hand corner. Send no more than 25 pages paper-clipped DO NOT STAPLE. Manuscripts must be received June 30th, No exceptions. Manuscripts that have not followed submission guidelines will returned to attendee with conference packet.

No books may be brought and sold at conference except those that have gone through the proper conference channels. Only conference attendees may sell books at MWG Conference. NO EXCEPTIONS.

b. Sue B. Walker – The Art of Imagination: Prose to Poetry. Turn a piece of prose into a piece of poetry
c. Howard Bahr – Writing the Past: historical novels
d. Rebecca Jernigan – Faces and Places: The Dramatic Monologue. Writers craft dynamic characters, sharpen dialogue and explore the dramatic voice of poetry.
Workshop II – 10:45 – ll:45
a. Tom Sawyer - Beginnings, Middles, Ends - Part 2 – Using cinematic language to write better novels and screenplays
b. Howard Bahr – Creating Character – learn to develop different character types, dialect, and techniques and create interesting characters
c. Cheryl Sloan Wray – How to Succeed as a Magazine Writer – Learn the ins and outs of magazine writing, including opportunities, marketing, guidelines for article construction, working with editors, and framework.
d. Gary Heidt –Query letters that catch an editor’s eye. How to pitch your novel in one sentence, present your credentials, and decide who to send your query to.
Workshop III – 1:15 – 2:15
a. Sue B. Walker – For Art’s Sake with the Fiddler in the Wings: How words trill and thrill; the art of making word music through visual art.
b. Rebecca Jernigan – Script Writing – learn the elements of script writing; develop short dramatic scripts
c. Howard Bahr – Entering space: focus on setting, negative space, and the way characters move through their environment.
d. Cheryl Sloan Wray – Writing successful magazine article queries
Workshop IV - 2:30 – 3:30
a. Gary Heidt – Be an Editor, Be a Critic – Editing to sharpen your finished product; reviewing books to discover great writing, gain new ideas, and build your credentials.
b. Cheryl Sloan Wray – How to Sparkle Magazine Editors – effective magazine articles that include logical construction, meaningful quotes, meaty information, meaningful message, and lively style.
c. Sue B. Walker – Never Had So Much Fun in my Life – Use setting or place as beginning point in poetry.
d. Tom Sawyer – Pitching Your Idea – Making the sale to other and to yourself, really knowing what your story is about.
