MISSISSIPPI WRITERS GUILD Advancing and Preserving the Literary Arts P. O. Box 3845 Meridian, MS 39303-3845
|
Mississippi Writers Guild ("MWG" or "The Guild") is a 501 (c)(3) non-profit Mississippi
Corporation. Incorporated November 2005, MWG has steadily worked towards building its
membership and community involvement in the arts and education within Mississippi.
MWG is forming chapters all over Mississippi with a chapter head spearheading each group
according to the needs of that chapter. Chapters meet regularly to network with other writers, share
writing experiences, tips, ideas, readings, open mic sessions, and critique groups. Chapters also
discuss and plan special programs and workshops for their area. Smaller events can usually be
handled by the chapter, but if larger events are sought for an area, such as a book festival or writer
retreat with a well-known author, the MWG board helps to implement the program or event and
assists in the advertising, funding, etc., to insure a successful event.
Annual membership dues allow MWG Members to link from the MWG website to their personal
website. Dues also allow membership discounts on all MWG events in addition to the above stated
benefits. In 2008, MWG will begin contributing a portion of the funds to individual chapters to
promote MWG and to implement programs, events, and workshops all over the state. MWG
members may also email questions related to writing to MWG contact people, as well as email news
and updates on their writing successes to be announced to the MWG list and in the quarterly
newsletter.

(Jackson, MS)--The Mississippi Writers Guild of Meridian, Mississippi has been awarded a
$4,000 grant from the Mississippi Arts Commission (MAC). This grant is a portion of the
$1.64 million in grants the Commission will award in 2010-2011 and will be used to fund a
writers conference.
The grants are made possible by continued funding from the Mississippi State Legislature and
the Nation Endowment for the Arts.
“Organizations across the state who receive grants from the Mississippi Arts Commission
continue to prove that arts programs are vital to the success of their community. The grants
awarded by the commission provide funding for the staging of festivals, theatre performances
and many other arts-related activities”, said Malcolm White, Executive Director of MAC.
“The arts provide a positive environment for learning, both in the classroom and in
communities. Arts funding has a significant multiplier and for every dollar spent in the
creative sector, eight dollars are realized in the local economy. That’s a good investment for
any business.
The Mississippi Writers Guild is a 501(C)3 corporation founded in 2005. Its mission is
“Advancing and Preserving Literary Arts in Mississippi.” The Guild is a state wide
